Three things you should know about a gel manicure

1. Nails don't need to "breathe"

Nails don’t need to breathe – let’s clear that up! They get all their nutrients from your fingers and fingertips. However, if you’re getting gels soaked off every time, your nails might need a break. Acetone can be harsh, so consider visiting a salon that uses an E-File instead - a more professional and gentle way to remove gels, whilst protecting your natural nails. Speaking of which…

2. Filing is bad for your nails

People often say drills are bad for your nails – and they’re right! But I’ve never seen a nail tech use an actual drill. What you're thinking of are E-Files, and these can be your gel nails' best friend when used properly. E-Files are perfect for removing the topcoat, colour layers, and even some of the base if needed. They’re also fantastic for prepping your nails. Fun fact, we offer Therapist training for this through our academy All About Me PRO.

3. Gel nails ruin your natural nails

Gel nails don’t ruin your natural nails – that’s a myth! The key is seeing a reputable Nail Tech or Therapist who uses quality products and genuinely cares about your nail health like we do here at All About Me Problems often occur from cheap products, rough handling, or neglecting your natural nails. Acetone, frequently used for removal, can also be damaging if overused, which is why choosing a salon that cares about your natural nails is one of the most important things you can do.
